When CVC Capital Partners set up Acordis in 1999, following its purchase of Akzo Nobel's fibres business, the new management was full of enthusiasm for its role. Acordis originally saw itself as becoming a major global fibres supplier, but is now in a rather more downbeat mdoe following recent events, notably the European Commission's failure to approve CVC's acquisitionfo the Austrian viscose (rayon) textile fibres business, Lenzing.
