London-The International Rubber Study Group has confirmethat Hidde Smit will be the organisation's next secretary-general.The present incumbent,Dr A F S Budiman,comes to the enof his contract at the enof this year anhas been arranging the selection of his successor.Smit is currently managing director of the Economic anSocial Institute at the free University of Amsterdam anis best-known for his economic models of the natural rubber market,which attempt to predict medium-to long-term supply andemananprice movements.
