With new reach (registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals) laws applying to the oil content of tyres from the beginning of 2010, and tyre-labelling laws applying from 2012, the European tyre makers' group wants to publicise the penalties for those who make or sell tyres which do not comply with the various requirements. As part of this policy, etrma held a meeting with the vice president of the European Commission, Siim Kallas, Commissioner for Transport, to highlight the need for national market surveillance, to ensure compliance with EU rules for tyre imports, and the importance of finalising the technical specifications for an effective implementation of tyre labelling.
