ONE OF THE MAIN THEMES at the recent IRC conference was the profitability-or lack of it-of the rubber industry.The message to come out of the session was fairly bleak,but I suspect that many readers of this column will recognise it.The main conclusion was that the total margin in the supply chain from raw monomers up to finished rubber product is barely enough to sustain one or two companies,let alone the three or four or five that are involved in the supply chain.
