Microwave irradiation for 15 minutes allowed the highly selective hydrothermal synthesis of the diamagnetic, air-stable oxidation catalyst [PW_(11)O_(39)Ru~(II)(DMSO)]~(5-), as confirmed by ~1H, ~(31)P, ~(99)Ru and ~(183)W NMR techniques.
