Unusual complication after mitral valve surgery in a systemic lupus erythematosus patient--giant postoperative thoracic seroma.

We report a case of a female systemic lupus erythe-matosus patient developing a giant postoperative seroma after mitral valve surgery (partial decortication and mechanical valve). A computed tomography (CT) scan disclosed a huge fluid collection with an extension from the jugulum to the diaphragm (20 cm x 10 cm x 6 cm) with a total compression of the right ventricle (Figs. 1 and 2).
