The possible existence of transformation from non-stem cancer cells to CSCs, the so-called dedifferentia-tion, may make the story more complex. CD44low non-stem cancer cell have been proven to be capable of transforming spontaneously to CD44high stem-like cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.4 As shown in Fig. 3, irnrrm-nofluorescence staining did not detect the expression of CD44 in the spheroids formed by CD44-negative cells.
