Equal access to healthcare on a non-discriminatory basis--reality or aspiration?

The right to healthcare services on a non-discriminatory basis is a key principle both within health law and medical ethics. It is protected in human rights and EU-law, and it targets equality at a systemic/organisational level as well as in the individual encounter between patient and the healthcare provider.
