We commend Lupinacci et al. [1] for an interesting original article about the evaluation of the results of cholecystectomy in patients aged 80 years and older. The authors concluded that patients who had been operated with acute cholecystitis (AC) presented extremely high morbidity and mortality rates and specified that further trials were required to elucidate the optimal management of AC in elderly patients.
