The synthesis of pyrrolo3,2-cquinolines is comprehesively reviewed.Synthetic approaches to martinelline alkaloids are then considered which are based upon the endeavors in this area by three independent groups.Preparations from the root bark of martinella species have been used by amazonian indian tribes for the treatment of a variety of eye ailments.
