Thermal characterisation of some Se-Ge-In chalcogenide glasses by differential scanning calorimetry

Differential scanning calorimetry is performed at different heating rates under non-isothermal conditions to study the glass transition kinetics of a-Se_(90)Ge_(10-x)In_x (x=2, 4, 6) alloys. The variation of T_g with heating rate and composition has been studied. The activation energy of glass transition ( triangle open E_t ) is calculated using the theory of glass transition kinetics and structural relaxation developed by Moynihan and other workers. The enthalpy ( triangle open H_t ) released and specific heat ( triangle open C_p ) of these alloys are also calculated. The results show that triangle open E_t, H_t and triangle open C_P are minimum at a particular composition (4 at percent of In). The fragility (F) of these glasses is also calculated. The results are explained in terms of dependence of fragility of these glasses on the average coordination number.
