An Italian perspective: Studying the cost-effectiveness of sofosbuvir before completion of national price negotiations

In Italy, a new national law ('Decreto Balduzzi' [1]) has recently accelerated the access of patients to new medicines just after approval by EMA. This period of immediate availability of new medicines (at free price) covers the entire time interval that our National Drug Agency takes (usually, months) to complete price negotiations with the manufacturer [2]. A new drug class, called 'Cnn Class', has therefore been established (where 'nn' stands for 'not negotiated' price).
