The first you will know about the Asian Hornet is when, about August-September, you notice a gathering of these hornets hovering about twelve inches in front of your hive. They will all be facing outwards and will be killing your bees as they return to the hive.What you do not do is to seek out the nest. The Asian Hornet is very dangerous. The nest will probably be high up in a tree and up to three feet across. If the hornets are threatened they will recruit a lot more from the nest to attack you. They will not only be able to sting through your normal clothing, they will spray venom into your face through the veil. Stings will leave round, deep holes about six millimetres across in your skin.
