Beekeeping - as distinct from honey hunting - has been practised by thinkers of all ages (including Aristotle who kept bees over two thousand years ago). The craft as we know it has existed since Langstroth designed the first hive to deliberately incorporate the bee space (which Aristotle knew about) and facilitated the intensive management of honey bees.Many beekeeping ideas have arisen from superstition: a kind of marrying of known facts with ignorance, plus a little mystery thrown in; maybe with a touch of fear to shroud reality. Ideas which are not always based on actual facts.
