What's happening at the Abbey?

Buckfast Abbey is a well known location for bee keeping. Of course most abbeys have a history of monastic beekeeping but Buckfast was made famous because of the work of Brother Adam. He developed the Buckfast bee - a hybrid celebrated all over the world as having very desirable characteristics including; a gentle disposition; tracheal mite tolerance; good honey production; prolific queens; hygienic and good housekeeping behaviour........the list goes on When I joined the bee department six years agothe Buckfast bee was no longer being bred at the Abbey.
