Research on Fungus as a treatment for Varroa - a report on U.S. research by Prof. Steve Sheppard

Researchers at the USDA-ARS Benefi cial Insects Research Unit in Weslaco, Texas, describe research results from their investigation on the use of a fungal pathogen Metahizium anisopliae to control Varroa destructor in honey bee colonies (Kanga et al.2003). This fungus had previously been shown to be lethal to the mites, but in this study Kanga et al tested the fungus under actual apiary conditions and with differing application methods.
