Many beekeepers and bee researchers desire to improve the lives of others through beekeeping. You may have met beekeepers while travelling. Or perhaps you are involved with a church-based organization or social group that believes that beekeeping willlead farmers and their communities out of poverty. Despite people's best intentions to help, efforts all too frequently miss the mark and fall short of the original goals. In surprisingly many instances, beekeeping projects actually cause financial hardship to the very people they were intended to help.
