Drug resistance in pulmonary tuberculosis in Turkey.

There is much variation in the incidence of anti-tuberculosis drug resistance, and significant differences exist between countries throughout the world. However, reports concerning newly identified areas with a high prevalences of drag resistance indicate that the creation of resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is not limited to one part of the world [1, 2]. The aim of the present study has been to determine levels of M. tuberculosis complex resistance to first-line drugs in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis referred to our clinic in the Sureyyapasa Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Training Hospital, which is one of the major referral chest hospitals in Turkey, with an 800-bed pulmonary department.
