he only big storm of the winter blanketed the northeastern U.S. in the early morning hours before our scheduled departure for the Miami Bio/Technology Winter Symposium last February, All New York flights were canceled or severely delayed, and when wefinally arrived at the Ft Lauder-dale site of the meeting in the early morning hours of the following day, one of my students mistook a large crane, inexplicably in operation, past midnight, in the eerie light of a full moon, for a creature out of Jurassic Park, This was the backdrop against which I brought my college- and graduate-level research group from York College of the City University of New York to their first mainstream scientific meeting last year.
