The trend is real. Parts of the High Plains, particularly the Southern Plains, are running short on water.But just because the trend is real doesn't mean it's irreversible. "If there's been a silver lining to the drought we've had the last three to four years, at least inthe Panhandle of Texas, it's shown us we need to make some decisions on something else to do beside grow corn or corn silage," says Ted McCollum, Texas AgriLife Extension beef specialist in Amarillo.
