European Economic Association: report of the Secretary for the period September 1,1999 - August 31, 2000

Since the beginning of 1999, Ms Pascale REID-THERER and Ms Christiane BARBOSA-COURANT run the secretariat together, each of them working half-time. For accounting matters, help on a part time basis is secured from Ms Christine HAAS. In the summer of1999, the secretariat sent out 1638 ballots to the members, to be returned by October 1. 450 (previous year: 608!) members participated validly in the election (11 ballots came in late). The counting of the votes gave the following results: PETER NEARYwas elected as Vice-President of the EEA for the year 2000, his term of office starting 1 January. According to the statutes, he will become automatically President-Elect for 2001 and President of the EEA for 2002. The membership also elected Philippe BACCHETTA, A. Lans BOVENBERG, Ramon MARIMON, Patrick REY, Anne SIBERT and Jurgen VON HAGEN as members of the Council of the EEA for a term of office of five years starting 1 January 2000. The list of officers for 2000 appears on the new EEA leaflet issuedin the Spring of 2000.
