The physical status of soils is evaluated from the interaction of their solid, liquid, and gas phases under thermodynamic equilibrium conditions. The theoretical analysis of forces and factors controlling the phase interactions and the state stability of physical soil systems was carried out, as well as their quantitative characterization based on modern instrumental methods (equilibrium centrifugation and gas chromatography). A large body of statistical data on light, medium, and heavy particle-size compositions, organic porous materials, and soil colloids was presented. The role of organic matter in the development of the physical status of soil was studied.
