Protecting soils from sheet, rill, and gully erosion, from leaching out soil solutions, and from contamination for different reasons and protecting peat soils from wind erosion cannot exist apart from considering the state of the subsoil layers and anthropogenic measures such as drainage. The drainage parameters predetermine the possibility of a rise in the ground water level (GWL) from the levels where the drains are laid to the plow layer as a result of infiltration. The throughput capacity of soils may be such that, even with drainage, a surface runoff may form and water erosion may appear.
