Salt-affected soils in Volgograd oblast are mainly represented by solonetzic complexes;the share of solonetzes in these complexes increases from the northwest to the southeast, from the Khoper-Buzuluk geomorphic region to the southern part of the Volga Upland,Northern Ergeni Upland, and the Khvalyn clayey plain. The degree of salinization and chemical composition of salts are determined by bioclimatic (zonal) and geomorphic and hydrogeological conditions.Anthropogenic impact on soil salinization is seen on irrigated lands and adjacent areas:rising ground water causes secondary salinization;at its stable level, topsoil horizons are leached. In both cases, soda appears in the soil profile.
