New packaging technique has French producer walking on air

ARCE, a grower and exporter situated in the south of France at Beaucaire, is particularly delighted with its new and original packaging technique. The Arce-Fruipack is an innovation designed to cushion fragile fruits between two plastic, air-filled pockets. To prevent the fruit from moving, these are sealed, and small holes are pierced in the pack to allow the fruit to breathe. "The advantages of this pack for our fruit will be enormous," says company director Pierre Arce. "Firstly, the fruit is protected from bruising, and as its contact with the air is limited it will therefore take longer for the product to dry out. As a result, the consumer will be able to buy the fruit at its optimum ripeness."
