The Sayres have cut inputs, improved pastures and raised stocking rates. Atrip to New Zealand in 1986 helped push Lawrason Sayre down the path toward intensive grazing. Today, Sayre and his son Ned say intensive grazing has allowed them to reduce inputs, improve pasture quality, stretch the length of the grazing season, and dramatically increase the carrying capacity on their Churchville, MD, purebred Angus operation.
