The historical importance of the Third Congress of the Dokuchaev SoilScience Society (Final pages of the history of soil science in Russia inthe 20th century)

One more important scientific event became a fact of history for the 20th century. In July 11-15, 2000, the 3rd Congress of the Dokuchaev Society of Soil Science took place in the town of Suadal, Vladimir oblast. We must be grateful to htose who proposed that the Congress should be held in this marvelous town, the ancient center of Russia and one of the gemstones in the Golden Ring of Russia. The nature of the Vladimir opol'e with its vast meadow-steppe areas converted into highly productive croplands, picturesque forest groves, and limpid emerald brooks cutting their way in deep valleys with outcrops of limestone and marl was an excellent background for the Congress.
