Heavy rain fails to dampen spirits: This season, Turkey's cherry crop was severely affected by climatic conditions, but thanks to the strength of its brand, Alara still continues to stand tall
This year, heavy and long-lasting rainfall washed away hopes of a successful season among Turkey's cherry growers. According to Turkish exporter Alara, Turkish cherry exports decreased as a result by a massive 50 per cent. "We experienced a decline inour cherry volumes this season," says the company's Kerim Taner. "The main issue was the heavy rains, which fell during the pollination period, causing a reduction in the number of bees. The campaign was also affected by the faster than normal maturation, resulting in a smaller crop on the trees. Depending on the region, crops were down by 50-70 per cent."
