Enza-branded kiwrfruit on the way: The company expects to grow the Hong Yang variety in Chile, Italy, Greece, France and China in order to supply a market that could eventually top 20m trays

Red kiwifruit is set to join green- and yellow-fleshed varieties marketed under the Enza label, a brand that already has iconic status within the apple and pear sector thanks to its longstanding association with New Zealand topfruit exports. Production of the fruit, which will initially be grown in China, is likely to be extended to areas of Europe and South America in a bid to secure year-round supply. Although the primary focus will be on markets in Asia, the likelihood is that the majority of theanticipated European red kiwifruit crop and a significant proportion of the South American supply will eventually be sold in Europe.
