Chernozem at the Turn of the Century

摘要

A representative conference devoted to the current state of Russian chernozem-a major natural resource of the country-took place in the settlement of Prokhorovka in March 2000. It was organized by the International Foundation of Slavic Written languages and Culture, the administration of Belgorod oblast, State Committee on Ecology of the Russian Federation, Department of Soil Science of Moscow State University, and the Kursk Association of Fellow Countrymen, a public organization. Proceedings of the conference constitute a large book and deal with various and increasingly difficult aspects of the chernozem problem. This book, if not an encyclopedia, is at least an anthology of chernozem science with respect to both the scope of problems and the geographic extent of lands studied: from Tatarstan in the north tot he Adygei Republic in the south and from Belgorod oblast in the west to the Altai in the east.
