Nunhems looks east for seed market expansion: The Dutch seed company provides an overall summary of Hungary's agricultural activities, where it is expanding its own operations

NUNHEMS Netherlands became a player on the Hungarian agricultural market in 1988, when its trading agency was established in the country. In 1992 this became known as Nunhems' Hungarian affiliated company, and now the company trades under the title Nunhems Hungary Ltd. The company takes an upbeat stance on Hungary's potential for fresh produce production. According to Nunhems Hungary salesman Laszlo Sandor, the Carpathian region has always played a vital role in the country's growing history. Ex-Socialist countries such as East Germany, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union used to import large amounts of Hungarian vegetables before the collapse of the Communist regime. In addition, Hungary used to supply West Germany and Scandinavia with peppers, pickling cucumbers, early cabbages, both white and green asparagus varieties and early Chinese cabbages.
