European berry marketers are anticipating a difficult Southern Hemisphere berry season in 2008/09. So says Ben Maes of distributor Special Fruit, who claims larger volumes from South America in particular, coupled with the current economic climate, are likely to impact negatively on prices. "At this moment in time it is still hard to say how the 2008/09 Southern Hemisphere berry marketing season will pan out, but we are not expecting prices to be higher this year, especially given the recent upward swing in the value of the US dollar" Mr Maes tells Eurofruit Magazine.
