Danish wholesalers plan bright future at new premises: Copenhagen Wholesale Market is upping roots to a new site before the end of the decade, in a move set to revolutionise the country's wholesale sector
AFTER almost 50 years at its current 40-acre site in Valby, where it has been based since 1958, the time is ripe for change, says Copenhagen's Wholesale Market's marketing manager Kristian Klaaborg. The whole market is scheduled to relocate to a 50-acre lot in Koge by mid-February 2009 (although other locations in the area are also under consideration), creating Europe's largest trading and distribution centre for foodstuffs and flowers. The board of directors has put the current site up for sale. "This latest move is part of a plan to update facilities for fruits, vegetables and flowers, secure future transport to and from the market with diesel trucks and elongated trucks in order to cope with environmental problems and increasing traffic over the next 10 years at least, and also expand the market area and improve its infrastructure," Mr Klaaborg tells Eurofruit Magazine.
