Daabon redoubles green efforts: The Colombian banana supplier has extended its research into greenhouse gas emissions as it continues on the path towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2012

Ethical banana producer-exporter Daabon has welcomed in the new year with a renewed focus on environmental sustainability. After expanding its plantations to 1,000ha in 2009, Daabon is now the largest organic banana producer in Colombia and within twoyears plans to become carbon neutral as the company complies with ever more social and environmental standards. "Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have become one of the most notable environmental issues of the last decade," says Daabon's UK account executive Astrid Duque. "There is a great debate surrounding the issue and it has been recognised that reducing emissions should be taken on board by all companies. At Daabon, we believe cutting emissionscalculating its GHG outputs, reducing avoidable emissions and offsetting those which are considered unavoidable.
