Overseas overtaking for Novafruit: With more of its business now between overseas sources of supply and markets in Asia, the Middle East and Russia, the Italian company has become a truly global enterprise

Genoa-based trading company Novafruit says it will most likely import a greater volume of fresh produce this year, buoyed by favourable changes in the euro exchange rate particularly against the dollar. Although the US currency has rallied in the lastcouple of months, strong trading relationships built up during the course of Novafruit's now well-established export business -much of it supplying markets in the Middle East and Asia - have helped the company build its import business. To this end, Novafruit recently secured a partnership deal with a distribution group in nearby Albenga, where the two companies are using the latter's coldstorage platform to facilitate imports from countries including Chile, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa and Turkey."This is where we are storing fruit sourced from overseas, before distributing it daily throughout Italy," reveals Novafruit director Luca Antonietti.
