Soil conservation in Russia and the United States: Parallels of the 20thcentury

The evolution of soil conservation policies in Russia and the United States in the 20th century is compared. The main factors of soil degradation at different stages of socioeconomic development of both countries are analyzed, and the efficiency of particular legislative, economic, and administrative actions undertaken in Russia and the United States to control soil degradation is estimated.
