Impacts of agricultural policy reforms on crop yields. (Special Issue: Focus on policy reform: The CAP Health Check and the US Farm Bill.)

摘要

This paper looks at the implications for crop yields of the recent reforms of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy that emphasize both decoupling and cross compliance. Based on Switzerland's experience, it is indicated that widespread extensive production and cross compliance measures might, at least in the short run, restrict crop yield growth. Future yield increases that might be necessary to meet future food demand, therefore, can be limited by agricultural policy towards environmentally friendly crop production.
