Having made it through the winter unscathed, the new season heralds the arrival of a bumper quality crop - a stark contrast to last year when freezing temperatures and heavy rainfall resulted in significant losses.Fernando Skiarski of Berries del Plata notes that a warm spell in August brought forward flowering and resulted in good pollination and fruit set. But he warns that growers are not out of the woods yet. "The warmer weather has undoubtedly been good for the crop but it has also brought a heightened awareness of the risk of potentially dangerous climatic events such as the hail that affected large parts of Concordia last season," he says.
