摘要

The European Commission on April 26 renewed pressure on the member states to comply with the EU's legislation on genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) when it adopted a proposal to ask Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, France and Greece to lift their banson certain authorized GMOs. The proposal will now go to the Council of EU Ministers for adoption -the Council can either adopt or reject the proposal with a qualified majority, and must reach a decision within the next three months. If it fails to do so, the files will return to the Commission who can then adopt them. If the proposal is adopted, the five member states in question will have to repeal their national bans at the latest 20 days after they are formally notified of the decisions.
