EU/LATIN AMERICA: EU PROPOSES EURO 176 IMPORT TARIFF FOR BANANAS

The EU on November 29 put forward a new proposal fora banana import tariff of euro 176/tonne in the ongoing negotiations with Latin American banana-producing countries. The new import regime would also include a duty-free annual import quota of 775,000 tonnes for bananas from the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. EU Farm Commissioner endorsed the new proposal, insisting that it is a "fair and balanced result for everyone, which will fully maintain access for Latin American producers while continuing to take into account EU and ACP producers".
