As a follow-up to an inspection assignment in Ireland, the European Commission has drawn up a report featuring a series of observations and recommendation to the relevant Irish authorities: the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) and the Department of Health and Children (DHC).. The main recommendations are to take steps to prevent any risk of food being contaminated by agents associated with mad cow disease. The FSAI is in charge of coordinating the application of food safety legislation nationwide. Inspections are organised and implemented by 10 regional health boards under service contracts concluded with the FSAI.
