EU/THAILAND: EU 70 EXTEND BAN ON CHICKEN IMPORTS

The EU is expected to extend the ban on imports of Thai chicken until December 15. A formal decision, due by mid-July, should roll over the emergency restrictions on imports of chicken products and pet birds from Asia by another three months. The original six-month ban was declared in February after an outbreak of Avian Influenza in Thailand. The disease was a particularly virulent strain, H5N1, which crossed the species barrier and killed at least 23 people.
