ORGANIC FOOD: EU ACTION PLAN SHOULD ENCOURAGE MORE ORGANIC FARMERS, SAYS EURO COOP

Market forces alone cannot overcome all the obstacles facing the organic fanning industry as long as organic production is too small to be part of the conventional food supply chain. More farmers need to be encouraged to take up organic production andconsumers need more information and a pricing policy that reflects the environmentally-friendly nature of organic food. These are the main conclusions drawn by the European Community of Consumer Co-operatives (EURO COOP) in its opinion on the European Commission's June 2004 Action Plan for Organic Food and Farming (COM (2004)415).
