EU/US/WTO: EU WELCOMES BUSH OFFER ON FARM SUBSIDIES

An offer by US President George Bush to overhaul US farm subsidies if the European Union did the same has been welcomed by the European Commission. EU Agriculture Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel said on July 4 she hoped the President's words would be translated into action. "We are prepared to bind our reforms into a global trade accord, but only if the US and others commit themselves to similar reform", she said.
