TOBACCO: SWEDISH MATCH URGES LIFTING OF BAN ON ITS SNUFF PRODUCTS

The tobacco company Swedish Match is calling on the European Court of Justice to overthrow an EU-wide ban on the sale of certain smokeless tobacco products, currently outlawed under EU law. At the heart of the case is a Swedish snuff (called snus) that is not swallowed or chewed, but is absorbed into the body through the inner lin ing of the mouth. Snus is popular in Sweden but illegal in all other Member States.
