SUGAR: MEPS DEAL BELATED BLOW TO EU SUGAR REFORM PLAN

In a belated blow to the EU's sugar reform plan, the European Parliament adopted three reports on January 19 calling for sugar price cuts to be kept under 30% and asking for more restructuring aid for growers and stricter controls on sugar imports. The reports, drafted by French Socialist Jean-Claude Fruteau, come almost two months after the EU's Agriculture Ministers agreed to 36% price cut at their November Council.
