摘要

A deal on farm import tariffs at a meeting in the north-eastern Chinese port city of Dalian appears to have revived hopes for the World Trade Organisation's current round of talks. The breakthrough came when a proposal from developing nations to cut agriculture tariffs received backing from both the European Union and the United States. The July 11-12 meeting, which gathered EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson and 29 Trade Ministers from across the globe, saw the G20 group of twenty developing nations propose cuts on agricultural tariffs among developed nations divided into five categories, setting uniform tariff cuts in each band, and also capping the maximum tax on imports at 100%.
