FOOD ADDITIVES: EP COMMITTEE AGREES ON UPDATED LIST OF PERMITTED ADDITIVES

The European Parliament's Environment and Public Health Committee on June 14 adopted a report updating the EU's two Directives on food additives. The report by Mojca Drear Murko (ALDE, Slovenia) was adopted with 42 votes in favour and 11 against, withno abstentions and should now be voted on at the July 4-7plenary session in Strasbourg. The European Commission had announced in 2003 its intention to a review the EU's two Directives on food additives, 95/2/EC and 94/35/EC. As this revision of the legislation is not yet ready, the EP's report introduces "interim corrections" update the list of authorised additives "according to scientific development and technological progress".
