EU/CHINA: FISCHLER VISITS SHANGHAI TO PROMOTE EU FOOD PRODUCTS

EU Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler was in China from March 25 to 30 to promote EU quality food products with EU business leaders. He was due to hold bilateral meetings with Chinese Ministers and municipal officials in Shanghai to discuss agricultural trade relations between China and the EU, China's application to join the World Trade Organisation and re-launching the stalled WTO talks on trade liberalisation. He will also attend the opening of the Shanghai food trade fair SIAL China. The visit comes just over a week after Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy visited China, saying Beijing held the key to kickstarting the WTO's Doha Round of trade liberalisation talks.
