The nicotine patch and gum, both nicotine replacement therapy products, have been used successfully in the early stages of nicotine addiction before long-term cigarette use sets in. But, little is known about their usage for teen smokers. Of the 1,879 teens who participated in this study, almost a quarter said they had used a patch or gum to help them quit smoking. These therapies were used more often among teens who were older and had higher levels of nicotine dependence and among those who were White compared to their Black counterparts.
